August 6 was our last summer reading day. To those children enrolled in summer reading who were not able to attend the August 6th program: Please stop by the library and pick up your certificates! There are coupons for free stuff from Hardees, Subway and Kwik Star too! YUM.
The winner of the 6 Adventureland tickets was Mariah Gilbert. Mariah's pin came closest to the hidden Gnome on the bulletin board. The guessing jar winners were Nolan Upah for the boys and Jersey Zeman for the girls. They each won a really cool activity kit. Hannah Oliver won the book "Compost Stew" and the dinosaur was won by Kloie Hendricks. There were lots of other great prizes given away on prize day, including Movie tickets to the Wieting from Independent Insurance, Sunglasses from Eyecare Associates, tote bags, backpacks, mini fans, water bottles, cups, cell phone holders and notebooks. Thanks to all our terrific sponsors this year, and to our great volunteers that are such a blessing.
I'm convinced we have the best bunch of kids in the world here in our local communities.
Our attendance for the programs this summer was 584. The kids read and logged 73,800 minutes in June and July, which is almost double what they read last year. Great job you guys!
A study done last year showed that children of all incomes levels that attended summer reading programs in the summer received higher scores on their reading skills test in the fall. So I'm thinking there are going to be some great test scores this year.
In September I'll start thinking about next summer's program and looking for fun ideas. Next year's theme will be "Fizz, Boom, Read". Sound fun?
