Nomination papers will be available across Tama County on Monday, Aug 26, for candidates seeking city council or mayor posts.
In Toledo, the Nov. 5 election ballot will have the positions of mayor, 1st, 2nd and 3rd wards and one council member at-large to be filled.
The mayor's post in Toledo is for a two-year term and council seats are for four years.
Dave Svoboda is in his first term as Toledo mayor. Also in their first terms are 1st Ward Council member Travis Mullen and member at-large Brian Sokol. 3rd Ward Council member Elmer "Skip" Wilson is completing his third, four-year term.
In addition, due to Census boundary redistricting, the 2nd Ward seat now held by Terry Goodhart will be vacant for a two-year term.
Goodhart's home is now in the 3rd Ward.
Ward council candidates must live within the boundaries of the area which they seek to represent.
Nomination papers can be obtained from the Office of Toledo City Clerk Julie Wilkerson on the lower level of the Toledo Community Building, 103 S. Church St. from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
They must be filed by 5 p.m. on Sept. 19 for candidates to appear on the November ballot.
In Tama, council seats held currently by Robert Tyynismaa and Mike Carnahan will be decided in the November election. Both are for four-year terms. All Tama City Council members serve at-large.
Tama nomination papers are available from the office of City Clerk Judy Welch in the Tama Civic Center.
