Meskwaki School student wins United States House Art competition

Skylar Papakee,14, from the Meskwaki Settlement School won the 2013 Congressional Art Competition sponsored by the Members of the US House of Representatives.

Each congressional district receives artwork submissions from area students and by popular vote, one is chosen to represent the district. Skylar is the 2013 Congressional Art Competition winner for Iowa's First Congressional District.

Skylar's artwork is a ink drawing called "Native Shawl Dance". Her artwork will hang at the capital complex in Washington DC for one year. Skylar also won a trip to Washington DC to see her artwork on display and to meet Congressman Bruce Braley.

Skylar Papakee is the daughter of Jon and Sonja Papakee of Montour.
