Patrons of the Clutier Public Library are once again getting together to make a quilt for the Library Auction which will be held at 4 p.m. on Aug. 3, the second day of the Bohemian Plum Festival. The quilt is always the last item on the auction.
For several years there has been a tradition of people getting together in the library to work on the quilt. The good will and camaraderie this project generates impacts many more people than are immediately apparent.
Not only the people working on the quilt, but those watching and learning from the project gain from it, and of course, the funds raised directly benefit the community by helping keep the library running.
This year's quilt is primarily in shades of tan, gold and brown, using plain and floral fabrics, set off with an animal print. Each year Margaret and Julia Babinat pick the fabrics, put the quilt together and donate it to the library where it is put on the frame for quilting.
Helping quilt have been Melody Fassett, Linda Dvorak, Sandi Kopriva, Mary Seda, Evelyn Caloud, Patti Kupka, Margaret Babinat and Tracy Sienknecht.
When the hand sewing is done, Margaret will take the quilt and do the border and then return it to the library for display until the auction.
Anyone is welcome to come see the quilt as it is being worked on. If you do, don't be surprised if you are asked to sit and sew along with us.
