Roland and Lorraine Staker, Tama will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on July 11, 2013.
Roland Staker and Lorraine Schelker were married on July 11, 1943, at the Community of Christ Church, Rhodes, Iowa. Shortly thereafter Roland enlisted in the US Navy and fought with his fellow seamen in the Western Pacific campaign during WWII. During this time Lorraine traveled daily to Ankeny and worked along side other military wives at the ammunitions depot.
They have lived most of their 70 years together in the Tama County area. After farming for several years, Roland worked for Farm Service Co. in Toledo. For many years he was also the area handyman.
Roland and Lorraine Staker today
Perhaps a few may remember the 'Family Tee' Miniature Golf Course of the early 1960's on the South edge of Toledo, Roland took great pride in designing and building the challenging course.
After retirement, if not on his porch swing, Roland could be found in his shop working on another project. Before retiring, Lorraine worked for the Tama State Bank in Tama and Twin Cities Insurance Co. in Toledo. For many years Lorraine has kept active with her piano playing, sewing, quilting, and cooking. Yet today her bread maker still produces Roland's favorite loaves of bread.
They have three sons: Gene (Sue) Staker, West Des Moines; Daryl (Kathy) Staker, Tama; Randy (Barbara) Staker, Cocoa Beach, Florida.
The Stakers have nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Roland and Lorraine are celebrating their anniversary with family and friends on July 13 at the Reinig Center in Toledo.
