Meskwaki Hotel • Casino recognizes flood volunteers

July 6, 2013
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel recognized a total of 41 volunteers from the Tama and Toledo area who dedicated their services during the recent flooding to keep our community safe and US Highway 30 open were honored. These volunteers gave selflessly of their time as they worked continuously over a 3-day period.

In late May, storms caused the Iowa River to spill over its banks. The Iowa Department of Transportation crews as well as Toledo and Tama firefighters worked to keep a stretch of US Highway 30 open two lanes near the Iowa River Bridge north of Montour. Fire trucks from both departments were used to pump water from the median and the DOT sandbagged the north shoulder. It was crucial to keep US Highway 30 open as it is the main thoroughfare for citizens to reach hospital services.

"Today was our way of saying thank you to these volunteers who were a critical part of efforts to provide services to the community and their families. This group of people contributed their own personal time and resources to help local law enforcement." said Daniel Stromer, General Manager.
