A Marshalltown man pled guilty last week in Tama County Magistrate Court to charges of harassment of a public official and public intoxication after identifying himself as "Johnny Gosch" to police officers.

Vincent Paul Cronbaugh, 43, was fined and assessed court costs totaling $148 on each charge by Magistrate Richard Vander Mey.

According to court records, Cronbaugh was arrested at the corner of North Main and State streets at 10:10 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. The location is on the Tama County Courthouse Square and adjacent to the county jail.

When first encountered, Cronbaugh told officers he was Johnny Gosch according to information provided in a written narrative to the magistrate by Officer Dan Quigley. Quigley said he told him "Johnny Gosch had been kidnapped decades ago and was still missing" and said Cronbaugh "found this to be funny and continued to refuse to tell us who he was."

Cronbaugh was without identification, but officer apparently determined whom they believed he was, but "he refused to talk" according to the narrative.

Quigley also said Cronbaugh "proceeded to direct abusive epithets towards me (which he had been doing since our initial contact.)"

Johnny Gosch and Eugene Martin were Des Moines newspaper carriers who both vanished in separate incidents while delivering newspapers in the early 1980s. Neither has ever been found.
