Flash flood warning in effect until 7:30 p.m.

June 24, 2013
National Weather Service - Des Moines , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

.. FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR EASTERN JASPER... MARSHALL... NORTHWESTERN POWESHIEK AND TAMA COUNTIES UNTIL 730 PM CDT...

AT 158 PM CDT... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THAT AS MUCH AS 2.5 TO 3.5 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA... MAINLY ACROSS TAMA COUNTY. THE STORMS WITH THE HEAVY RAINFALL WERE IN THE PROCESS OF EXITING THE FAR EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE WARNED AREA. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN A THREAT FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT FEW HOURS.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLASH FLOODING INCLUDE... GRINNELL... MARSHALLTOWN... NEWTON... BROOKLYN... DYSART... MONROE... TAMA AND TOLEDO.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS... HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY... COUNTRY ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS... STREAMS AND OTHER LOW LYING AREAS ARE ALSO SUBJECT TO FLOODING.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR AND THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. TURN AROUND... DONT DROWN.
