Tama County Solid Waste Disposal Commission members met in closed session with a pair of West Des Moines lawyers on Thursday night, May 30.
Upon returning to open session, commission members voted to hire the lawyers, John Roehrick and Carlton Salmons, to provide legal services over "threatened litigation" according to the minutes of the meeting.
Roehrick will be paid $225 hourly and Salmons $200 hourly plus travel time and mileage.
No details of the nature of the threat of a lawsuit were disclosed.
Among it's duties, the Solid Waste Commission oversees operation of the Tama County Sanitary Landfill located three miles north of Toledo and provides the system for collection of recycleable material at various locations throughout the county.
In an unrelated matter, Roehrick was scheduled to meet with the Tama County Board of Supervisors on Monday to discuss finances of the Mental Health Clinic of Tama County. This was confirmed by Tama County 1st District Supervisor Larry Vest, Dinsdale.
Vest declined to comment on the Solid Waste Commission matter. All three supervisors are Solid Waste Disposal Commission members.
Neither Roehrick nor Salmons returned a telephone call seeking comment on Friday.
