Wendell D. Smith, 67, of rural Gilman, formerly of rural Kellogg, died on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 8, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home, 1115 E. 19th St. N. in Newton.
The family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, June 7, at the funeral home.

Wendell D. Smith
Wendell was a graduate of South Tama High School in 1964. Wendell was a farmer. After 37 years, he retired from Fisher Controls in Marshalltown where he had worked as an engineering technician. After he retired from Fisher Controls he did maintenance work at Newton Village for seven years. Wendell was currently doing commercial lawn mowing with his wife.
Survivors include his wife, Marlys of Gilman; children, Lisa Damman of Newton, Cheryl (Dan) Ritter of Newton, Marc (Brenda) Smith of Newton, and Laura (Rick) Spearrin of East Millinocket, Maine; his eight grandchildren, Desiree Damman, fianc Tony Cameron, Shelby (Landon ) Elscott, Derek Damman, Bradley Ritter, Megan Ritter, Jacob Smith, Jenna Smith, all of Newton, and Avery Spearrin, East Millinocket, Maine; great-granddaughter, Tabitha Elscott of Newton; his three brothers, Vernon (Brenda) Smith, Ron (Jan) Smith, and Lloyd (Toni Ann) Smith, all of Tama; and his sister, Wanda (Dean) Arp of Seattle, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Joan Smith, and father-in-law Lester Boldt.
