Iowa Department of Transportation crews and Toledo and Tama firefighters are working to keep a stretch of the U.S. Highway 30 Expressway open to two lanes of east-west traffic near the Iowa River bridge north of Montour, about six miles west of Toledo.
Fire trucks from both departments are being used to pump water from the median. The DOT has sandbagged the north shoulder.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is completely under water. Residents in the southeast Tama County town are comparing flooding to 2008. The Chelsea Fire Department was evacuating residents Tuesday morning and assisting others reaching their homes. The Tama County Highway Department was preparing to close a portion of Tama County E66 on Chelsea's north side at mid-morning Tuesday. Alliant Energy and Union Pacific Railroad crews were also responding to Chelsea.
