Iowa Valley College Board approves redistricting plan

MARSHALLTOWN The IVCCD Board of Directors became the first Iowa community college board to approve redistricting plans as mandated by the Iowa Code to reflect changes in population.

The redistricting involves changes to all but one of Iowa Valley's seven director districts.

The Iowa Valley Board heard a presentation from Marshalltown Community College Humanities faculty members and selected students about the newly-published 2012-13 Timber Creek Collection.

The Collection features artwork, photography, poetry and creative writing from several talented MCC students. Students Kathy Holtsclaw,Guadalupe Vasquez-Iacona, Chantel Woerner and Terry Wegman discussed their creative projects with the Board members.

In other matters, the Board:

approved several new fees and fee changes as recommended by administration.

approved a $15,000 New Jobs Training Contract with Fisher Controls International for its Machine Operator Training Program.

rescinded a voluntary early retirement plan application from MCC English Professor Connie Adair (at Adair's request).

approved a modified Accelerated Career Education physical infrastructure assistance program application, giving MCC / IVCE more time for planning and development of their Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center renovation project.

amended a contract for GED instruction and testing at the Eldora Training School.

approved payment of 2013-14 dues to the American Association of Community College Trustees in the amount of $2,879.

renewed a $2,276 license agreement with McGraw-Hill for the Access Science Database.

Three gift donations were accepted by the Board: a donation of $250 from Dr. Robert and Linda Moore to the Friends of the Orpheum campaign; a donation of hex bars valued at $5,345 from Jackie Harrill to MCC; and a donation of hex bars valued at $5,345 from Dale Suhr to MCC.

The Board held separate closed sessions to discuss Chancellor Chris Duree's annual performance evaluation and collective bargaining strategy, but took no action upon re-entering open session.

The next regular meeting of the IVCCD Board of Directors will be at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at the Iowa Valley Grinnell campus.
