34th annual Lincoln Highway Bridge Festival continues Saturday

Big slate of activites planned

Tama's 34th annual Lincoln Highway Bridge Festival kicked oof on Friday and continues today - Saturday, May 18, and promises some surprises mixed with old favorites. The celebration is themed for the famed bridge built in 1915 on East 5th Street which has been carefully preserved and still in use today. It is on the National Historical Register.

The original route of the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental highway in the United States, utilized the bridge as part of its route across Tama County.

Merriam's Midway-Tama Firemen's Carnival is making its 60th annual stop in Tama and began operations earlier. this week on the south and east sides of the Tama Civic Center. It continues through Saturday night with rides and games for young and old.

Merriam's Midway Shows workers were busy settting up the carnival earlier this week. It's the 60th annual stop for the carnival sponsored by the Tama Firefighters Association.

Firefighters host a pancake breakfast at the fire station from 7- 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. A 5K Run gets underway at 8 a.m. at the South Tama Elementary School, 1611 Country Club Drive.

The Grand Parade begins at 10 a.m. through downtown Tama.

There's a bevy of free entertainment and activities to follow. Balloon and caricature artists, water fights, Sandhill Nickel Scramble and a Bean Bag Tourney at the Eagle's Club. The Vendor Fair continues at the Civic Center.
