The Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo plans to once again raise their Avenue of Flags on campus ground for the Memorial Day weekend. The flags are flown in remembrance of individuals and groups for which flags have been dedicated, either as memorial or a living tribute.
At a dedication ceremony on Thursday, May 23, at 3 p.,m., two new flags honoring retired IJH employees Don Havran and Roger Smith will be added.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony in the IJH School Gym.
The Avenue of flags project at the Iowa Juvenile Home was pioneered in 1991. With the new dedications the Avenue now totals 105 flags.
The Avenue of flags Committee says "We have all known individuals who have impacted our lives in one way or another, or who committed themselves to unselfish service for our country, their community or family. It was for those people or groups the Iowa Juvenile home established the Avenue of Flags.
Any individual or organization may dedicate a flag or obtain more information by contacting IJH at 641-484-2560, ext. 2305. Cost of the flag, pole and plaque is $84.
New dedications are held twice annually on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
