AMES- Amici Hayek of Toledo has been named a "Student Sensation" for 2013, by the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences.
Hayek, a senior majoring in child, adult and family services, is there when those around her need a hand.
Whether it is the young students she tutors as a Multicultural Vision Program Scholar, the sorority sisters she mentors as vice president of intellectual development, or the freshmen she helps transition to college life as a Destination Iowa State leader, Hayek serves as a friend and role model.
She also wants to inspire others with her passion for learning. She credits her College of Human Sciences classes with instilling a belief that learning is an invaluable, lifelong process.
The honor of Student Sensation is bestowed annually to an elite group of undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following: scholarship, leadership, professional practice, community service, university service, activism, overcoming obstacles, and problem-solving.
Hayek is among 12 students selected for the honor in 2013.
Sensations are selected by Iowa State's Human Sciences Student Council through a competitive process and are recognized by the dean's office.
Those selected are held up as role models for others to emulate.
