Dysart man sentenced for filming babysitter using his bathroom

A Dysart man was sentenced to suspended 180-day jail terms on four counts of invasion of privacy - nudity by Judge Paul D. Miller in Tama County District Court in Toledo on April 25. One $315 fine on the charges was imposed with three others of the same amount suspended.

Kristopher John Belthuis, 34, pled guilty to the charges on April 11. Two additional charges of invasion of privacy were dismissed.

Belthuis was accused of filming a babysitter who was using the bathroom at his residence in Dysart on July 25, 2012 by Dysart Police Chief Jason Dunagan. He allegedly used a hidden video camera to record the victim.

A County Attorney's information filed o Dec. 14 added five more charges of invasion of privacy for the purpose of arousing or satisfying the sexual desires of any person The additional charges noted the incidents occurred between May and July of last year.

Belthuis must register as a sex offender and was directed to pay a $250 civil penalty on each charge.
