Applications for the Tama County Magistrate positions are being accepted in the office of the Tama County Clerk of the District Court until 3 p.m. on Monday, May 20.
The Magistrate Appointing Commission will meet on May 22 to appoint two magistrates for four-year terms beginning Aug. 1.
Commission members are District Court Judge Fae Hoover-Grinde, John Livingston and Marvin Wendel, both of Gladbrook, John Willett, Tama and Robert Hill, Dysart.
Magistrates must be county residents or live in a contiguous county and be a state-licensed attorney.
Magistrates currently seated may also apply if they are not attorneys.
In Tama County, present magistrates are Richard Vander Mey, rural Clutier, and Ann Kuhter, Toledo.
Vander Mey is a former assistant county attorney. Kuhter is not an attorney but has held the post for four terms since Aug. 1, 1997.
Magistrates are paid $37,740 annually.
