The count down has begun and the Flamingos are landing!

Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The STC Music department is ramping up for the final days prior to their trip to New York City.

There are several fund raisers coming up that will help pay the final expenses for the trip.

Flocks of Flamingos can come "land" at your house or your friends. Flock sizes are 20 flamingos for a $15 donation; 40 flamingos for a $20 donation or 60 flamingos for a $30 donation. They are placed in yards in the dark and stay for one day. They then "fly" to their next location after dark and land at their next location. Anti-pinking Insurance is available for $10. Friends can pink friends secretly, if they wish.

The recent scene in the front yard of Chronicle bookkeeper -receptionist Shirley Shepard and her husband, Lynn, in Toledo, showed a flock of those pink birds which had “landed.” Sightings of the flocks have been reported all over the area.

On May 5 there will be a car wash, bake sale, and pop can drive, "one stop shopping", at Kwik Star, from 1 - 4 p.m. STC Music Students will be washing cars for $5. Bring all your empty soda bottles and pop cans and buy some home made baked items to take home and enjoy.

If you would like more information about this event you can contact Ron Lowe at 484-4896 or Janice Upah at 484-5847. All proceeds from this will go to the New York City Trip. Each student that helps with this event will receive up to $7.50 per hour in their trip account.

Also on May 5, from 1-4 p.m. students will be at the Toledo and Tama Casey's pumping gas. Students will be pumping gas for tips or free. Maybe they'll even wash your windows.

Other ways that students can earn money for their Trip Account is to sign up to work at the soccer concessions. There are slots for two adults and one student at each event.

To sign up for these you need to contact Janice Upah at 641-484-5847 or 641-481-3051. These will be done on a first come first serve basis.

The famous Rube's steaks, burgers and meat packages will be sold by music students in May. A percentage of the profits are credited in each students trip account.

Other items that can be purchased from a Music student are the Kwik Trip Gas Cards. These cards can be used for milk, eggs, any other item that is sold at Kwik Star as well as gasoline. For each gas card sold 9% is credited in each students account.

On the Town Cards are available. These include discounts at Fareway, Tama Florist, Subway, Butter Cow, Ultimate Image, Mano's, El Campesino, Bit T, Rube's, Venture Lanes, Bumblebee's, House of Chen, Magnolia and Kwik Star. These are valid until May 1, 2014. Each card costs $15 and you can receive several dollars worth of discounts.

For more information regarding any of the above fund raising opportunities, please contact either Co-Chair, Janice Upah at 484-5847 or 641-481-3051 or Mary Jo Cherveny at 641-484-5847.
