Toledo Council says to prosecute tobacco violation

April 18, 2013

Several topics came up for discussion during last week's Toledo City Council meeting, including a tobacco violation and resolutions for refinancing bonds.

The Iowa Attorney General's office reported a tobacco violation in February in Toledo. An employee of Jiffy gas station is being charged with selling tobacco to a minor. It was reported during a compliance check and is the first one in the history of the business. However, it is the seventh tobacco violation in Toledo since 2001, but the first since 2006.

The violation came up for discussion at the city council meeting, because the city has the option to prosecute the case. The city council unanimously voted to approve a resolution to take such action.

In other news from the meeting, the council approved several agreements or resolutions for Piper Jaffray regarding the Aquatic Center and Sewer bonds. They were all unanimously approved.
