Volunteers needed for rec trail work

Anyone with a pick-up truck, pitchfork or garden rake is needed Saturday morning.

The South Tama Recreational Trail Board is looking for volunteers to mulch the eight or nine flower beds that lie along the six-mile trail. Any volunteers will be appreciated, but the board is needing those with pick-up trucks to haul the mulch and those with pitchforks and rakes, too.

"We have flower beds along the trail," said Jake Jacobson, president of the South Tama Recreational Trail Board. "What we're going to do is mulch those flower beds. We need people with people with pick-ups to haul the mulch. If anybody wants to show up and help, we'd appreciate it."

Those interested in volunteering should meet the group at 9 a.m. Saturday at the old City of Toledo shed on Ross Street, near the Toledo City Park. The mulch will be loaded into trucks there and hauled to the trail.

The trail is popular with walking, jogging and bicycling enthusiasts and runs from West Ross Street in Toledo to the Iowa River at the south edge of Tama.

"We're just looking for help on Saturday morning for a couple of hours," Jacobson said.
