Problems again surfaced early this week at the Tama yard waste disposal site south of Cherry Lake.

Illegal dumping of unaccepted material was discovered prompting a return to key-only entry effective immediately.

Only tree limbs, brush and yard waste is allowed.

Garbage, pallets and lumber was discovered there it was reported by city workers.

The gate to the roadway at the southeast corner of the lake is now locked. Residents wanting access must obtain a key from the City Clerk's Office in the Tama Civic Center, 305 Siegel, from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

You must pick up a key in advance if you want to dispose of yard waste on Saturday or Sunday.

The key requirement is not the first for the brush site as earlier illegal dumping has resulted in gate closures.

Tama Mayor Dan Zimmerman said if improper disposal of waste continues there it may force complete closure of the location.

The site is monitored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and is restricted to what may be deposited and its disposal method.

A dumpster is available north of the Tama civic Center near 5th and Harding streets for disposal of yard waste. Only leaves and yard and garden material with a woody stem is allowed. No shrubs, tree branches or grass clippings can be left at this location.
