High school students from across Tama County will be in Toledo today (Wednesday, April 10) for the 59th annual Tama County Government Day.
Sponsored by the Tama County American Legion posts and Auxiliary units. The event is believed to be the last of what was a nation-wide event in an earlier generation.
Students get an up-close glimpse at their government on the local level from elected office holders and other county officials. In addition to touring various offices and facilities, they are guests at a noon luncheon at the Reinig-Toledo Civic Center hosted by the Legion and Auxiliary.
This year a total of some 150 students from South Tama, Meskwaki, Herbert Hoover (Iowa Juvenile Home), Garwin-Green Mountain, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, North Tama and Union (Dysart-LaPorte City) are expected.
