Minor injuries when South Tama school bus upsets

UPDATED 3:45 p.m. April 8, 2013: Two South Tama school students received minor injuries when the school bus upon which they were passengers went off a county gravel road northeast of Toledo and overturned about 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Gabe Boriskey, 9, and Danial Branon, 18, suffered minor injuries according to the Tama County Sheriff's Office. Both were treated at the scene by Toledo ambulance personnel. Nine students were on the bus which overturned on the O Avenue gravel, north of Tama county Road E43 (Dupanda) about seven and one-half miles northeast of Toledo. Nine students and the bus driver, Gerald Moyer, 67,Tama, evacuated the bus through the back emergency door according to the Sheriff's Office report.

The report says the bus was northbound on O Avenue when approaching a second curve the bus and was positioned too far to the right resulting in the right wheels began to sink into the soft roadway and dropping the vehicle into the ditch where it rolled onto its right side.

The report says a combination of roadway conditions and too great of speed contributed to the accident. Moyer was charged with failure to maintain control.

The Toledo Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene.

Posted=8:40 a.m.Toledo firefighters said possibly two of a half-dozen students aboard a South Tama school bus appeared to have suffered only minor injuries when the bus which they were riding went off the roadway and overturned in a ditch seven and one-half miles northeast of Toledo about 7:340 a.m. Monday, April 8. The students were treated at the scene by a Toledo ambulance crew. A second South Tama school bus was at the scene to transport students. It was not immediately known if heavy fog early Monday contributed to the mishap. It occurred on O Avenue about a mile north of Tama county Road E43 (Dupanda Road.) The Tama County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
