Veterans' Monument Fund surpasses goal

March 29, 2013
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

As of Friday, March 22, the monument fund had donations of over $4,800. The Oak Hill Cemetery Association will be able to use any extra funds to make the monument site, itself, more attractive. Plantings would be pleasing additions as would a nearby bench where visitors to the cemetery could rest. It is very easy to become disillusioned about this world when considering the happenings around us, but it is truly wonderful to realize that our world still has people who are caring. And it seems when it comes to our veterans, there are many people who care a great deal.

A list of donors will be published next week and we will post those who donated money after that date. However, it is important to note those who donated in other ways.

Stuart Eisentrager, Rod Anderson, Jon Kalinay, and John Lloyd have volunteered to remove the old monument.

Kendall Jordan, Iowa Step and Tank, is donating two large planters for use on the memorial.

Kevin Turbett, Turbett Concrete and Masonry, is donating a portion of his labor in building the monument.

John Speer, editor, and The Tama News-Herald and Toledo Chronicle, enthusiastically promoted the fund drive by featuring it on the front page.

Donations to the monument were both large and small, but each donation was a heartfelt remembrance and appreciation for veterans and their service.
