Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging participated in Mayors for Meals Day as part of its March for Meals campaign. A total of 27 mayors, supervisors, city council members, or city managers from Hawkeye Valley's 10 county service area joined over 1,000 mayors across the country to participate in this event to show their support for the older individuals in their community.
"We not only provide a nutritious hot meal for older individuals that are not able to get out, but we also provide human contact that is lacking for many of these individuals," said Sally Myers, Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging Associate Director. "We rely on volunteers every day to help deliver meals. Through events like the Mayors for Meals day, we hope to bring awareness about our program and hopefully get more people interested in volunteering."
Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging offers both congregate and home delivered meals to people age 60 and over on a contribution basis.
