Evelyn Carpenter of California and Harold Crawford of Marshalltown donated to the Veterans' Memorial fund. Their brother, Lawrence "Larry" Crawford is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. He was a veteran of WWII.
Rosie Schrack, now living in Grinnell, donated to the fund in memory of her husband, honored veteran and beloved teacher, Don Schrack, now resting at Oak Hill. Donations have come in from local people and from people across the United States who want to honor a veteran who was, and still is important to them.
In Oak Hill Cemetery, there are veterans from the War of 1812 to our more recent wars. Although their service has spanned the centuries, they have one very important thing in common. They served our country, and that service benefitted us - ALL of us.

Building this memorial is a way we can show our appreciation. A veterans' organization, Rolling Thunder Chapter One in Waterloo, has as its mission pushing our government to bring home every MIA or POW. They begin each meeting with a prayer, and they close each prayer with these words, "You are not forgotten."
Our veterans should never be forgotten, but even more than that, they must always be honored. Let us honor them with this memorial. Please donate now.
