Pleads guilty in arson case

Before Judge Robert E. Sosalla in Tama County District Court in Toledo:

Joshua Robert Weiermann, 19, rural Chelsea pled guilty to 3rd degree arson in a fire which burned an unoccupied house at 3440 G Ave., on May 13, 2012. He also entered a guilty plea to being an accessory after the fact in connection with a grass fire at Duffus Landing on 380th Street which occurred on March 18, 2012.

Weiermann, a Chelsea firefighter, was accused of being an accomplice to Tama firefighter Justin Lee Anderson in at least some of a series of fires set intentionally in the Tama area from March to May of last year.

Weiermann was sentenced to six days in jail to be served concurrently on each charge and credited for six days already served. He was also fined $625 on each count.

He will also be responsible to pay victim restitution the amount of which is to be determined within 30 days.

Six counts of 2nd degree arson were dismissed.

Anderson pled guilty to three counts of 2nd degree arson and two charges of 3rd degree arson on Dec. 14 in Tama County District court. He received suspended prison and jail sentences and was placed on probation.
