Child advocates needed in Tama County

February 25, 2013
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The Iowa Child Advocacy Board is seeking volunteers in Tama County to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA's). CASA volunteers advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children and they provide a voice for children in Juvenile Court. Volunteer advocates will receive training to learn about the child welfare system in Iowa and the CASA roles of investigator, reporter, and monitor.

Currently, there is also one vacancy on the Benton-Iowa-Tama Foster Care Review Board (FCRB). The Board meets on the 3rd Thursday every other month to review the cases of children who are placed out of their parental home. The Board is composed of seven volunteer members from various occupations within the community.

Based upon the review, a report is sent to the Juvenile Court Judge with recommendations to assist in achieving a safe, nurturing, permanent placement for the child. FCRB volunteers also receive training on the Iowa child welfare system and FCRB process.

If you would like additional information on either of these volunteer opportunities, please call Christine Deam toll-free at 855-295-5424 or e-mail at .

You can make a difference in the life of a child!
