Elixir of Love live in Toledo Friday night

Opera Iowa Road Show hits Wieting Friday night

A romantic comedy will be certain to delight the audience this Friday night (Feb. 22) at the Wieting Theatre in downtown Toledo.

Opera fans and those who just enjoy live entertainment are promised a real treat as OPERA Iowa Educational Touring Troupe takes to the stage for their performance of Gaetano Donizetti's romantic comedy The Elixir of Love.

The event is being sponsored by Toledo PEO Chapter DF as a fund raising event for the historic Wieting renovations.

Enjoyment of the production is enhanced by "perfect performance acoustics in our newly renovated 1912 opera house," according to Wieting Guild member Mary Fasse-Shaw.

Admission for the 7 p.m. performance is $12 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets are available at The State Bank of Toledo, Lincoln Savings Bank and at the door the night of the opera.

A reception for the cast and audience follows the performance at the next-door Toledo Community Building.

Opera Iowa is also appearing at the South Tama Elementary School on Friday in a performance of Three Little Pigs. This event is for students only.


OPERA Iowa Educational Touring Troupe members are handpicked from nationwide auditions of more than 800 singers to share their love of opera with audiences of all ages. The talented young performers of the 2013 OPERA Iowa troupe are: bass Brad Baron of Glen Rock, N.J;. baritone Greg Jebaily of Florence, S.C.; tenor Robert Lilly of Houston, Texas; soprano Amedee Moore of Dayton, Ohio; and soprano Andrea Shokery of Gahanna, Ohio. The music director is Tzu-Hwa Ho of Taiwan and the technical director is Jessica Rechin of Buffalo, N.Y.

RECEPTION-Cast and audience following the performance at the Toledo Community Building adjacent

OPERA Iowa Educational Touring Troupe, a program of Des Moines Metro Opera, Inc. began this tour on Jan. 28. OPERA Iowa will visit more than 60 schools and communities, giving 80 or more performances for approximately 20,000 school-aged children starting on January 28 and extending through April 12. The school performances are presented in conjunction with interactive and engaging workshops that meet the National Standards for Arts in Education guidelines. The troupe will also give 11 evening concert performances for community audiences in various locations across the state. These performances are open to the public.

Des Moines Metro Opera, founded in 1973, is an independent, non-profit, professional opera company dedicated to bringing world-class opera productions and vital performing arts education to central Iowa
