Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The Young Guns 4H club had a potluck and Christmas party Jan. 19 at the Nature Center at Otter Creek Park.

The meeting came to order at 2:30 p.m. There were seven members and 12 parents and visitors present. Liesel Casto led the pledge to the American Flag and Rachel Silhanek led the pledge the 4H pledge. Roll call was showing the proper way to clear a rifle and name a part of the rifle. Brock Upah read the minutes to the last meeting. Liesel made a motion to approve the minutes and Addi Bucich seconded the motion.

Old business discussed was setting up a table at Theissens in Marshalltown to sell shotgun raffle tickets, and setting up a day and time for anyone to help sell the tickets. We decided to go Saturday, Feb. 2.

We have adopted a section of highway for our community service project. We will need to clean it twice a year. We will pick sometime in the spring and fall. In March we voted to help with the Friends of NRA banquet, they responded with an email and need five or six kids to help in the morning on Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. Connor, Liesel, Addi and Bradyn Abe volunteered to help. Brock motioned to end old business and Eric Keller seconded it. New business was to elect a new Secretary and set up committees for our Invitational Shoot in May.

Addi made a motion to end new business and Eric seconded it. Leaders report was to remind everyone to pay the $15 dollar membership fee, if they haven't paid yet, and to get enrolled online if you are not a new member this year.

Dates to remember are: Jr Lock-in March 1 and 2 for grades 4-6, and Winter Carnival March 16 at the Traer Memorial Building, meal will be from 5:30-8 and games will be from 6-8:30.

The host and presentation today was Eric. His presentation was on gun safety, and handed out a short quiz to everyone.

The next meeting will be Feb 23 at 4 p.m. at the Casto's. Note the day and time change from the original agenda sheet.

Host will be Connor, and Liesel will be doing the presentation.

Liesel made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Brock seconded the motion and passed unanimously. We handed out presents for the gift exchange.

Since there was no snow for sledding, we played a few games of bingo instead.
