When activated the CodeRED system calls all who are registered on their telephone or cell phone to inform them of an event.
Each city (except Tama) and the county is billed at the rate of 50 cents per person based upon population annually to cover the cost of the service.
CodeRED can be used to issue information about weather conditions, traffic problems, evacuations, lock-downs, abductions, and down power lines to list some of the uses for the system according to the Tama County Emergency Management website.
