Viola E. Behounek

Viola E. Behounek, 92, rural Chelsea, passed away at Sunny Hill Care Center, Tama, after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, Feb. , 6, 2013. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chelsea, by Deacon Joe Behounek. Burial will be at Rector Cemetery, Chelsea. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the church.

Viola was born on April 13, 1921 to Paul and Rose (Tripplett) Patton on the family farm in rural Poweshiek County. She graduated from Brooklyn High School and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. Viola taught country school until a neighbor boy came calling and they were married no Aug. 30, 1947. She served as Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph, Chelsea, for 17 years. She was a member of the Women's Foresters and Rosary Society for over 60 years. Viola lived on the family farm at rural Chelsea until November of last year.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Gregory (Pam) Behounek, Blairstown, Kenneth (Debra) Behounek, Tama and Nathan (Valerie) Behounek, Chelsea; six grandchildren, Melissa Behounek Marshall (Jason), Chris Behounek (Agie), Andy Behounek (Maggie), Carie Behounek Sherman (Luke), Jacob Behounek (Amy) and Sarah Behounek (Aaron Kassen); two great grandchildren, Caitlin Marshall and Juliet Sherman.

Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, was in charge of arrangements.
