After beginning the season 2-6, the Meskwaki boys basketball team has found its niche and currently has a record above .500.
The Warriors won their last two games as they improved to 10-9 on the season. Last Friday, the Warriors avenged a previous 18-point loss to Don Bosco with a two-point victory at home. The Warriors won 44-42, ending a two-game skid.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter, but Meskwaki led 9-5 after the opening eight minutes. The Warriors continued to lead at halftime, 25-17. The two squads played even in the third quarter and Meskwaki held on to its eight-point lead.
Don Bosco nearly came back and won the game in the fourth quarter as it outscored the Warriors by six points. However, Meskwaki did just enough to earn the victory.
A pair of Meskwaki players scored in double figures in the win. Tyus Grant scored a game-high 16 points, while Royce Timberwolf added 12 points for the Warriors. Terrell Grant, Darrion Murray, Danan Kapayou and Cordell Bear each scored four points in the victory.
On Saturday, the Warriors won their second-straight game when they crushed Clarksville. Meskwaki was challenged early but that didn't last long as it won 58-27.
Tyus Grant and Corey Dye led the Warriors in scoring with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
The Warriors are scheduled to play at Valley Lutheran in Cedar Falls on Friday night. Then they will host AGWSR on Monday.
