Father, son team up to open Mano’s Restaurant, Pizzeria and Lounge in Toledo

Take Over Operation of Granny's On Business 30

Granny's has a new name and new operators. Mano's Restaurant, Pizzeria and Lounge opened Monday, Jan. 21 in the Granny's location at 202 Business Highway 30 West in Toledo. Look for an upcoming change to the highway sign which has been ordered.

Emmanuel "Mano" Hasapis assisted by his son, Dimitris, have leased the property for one year with an aim at buying it once business is well established.

They moved to Toledo two months ago and have been busy remodeling the interior.

"I always like seeing people coming back, maybe four or five times a week," says Mano, who speaks from true restaurant experience.

He owned and operated the Riverbend Pizza and Steakhouse in Keosauqua, Iowa, for 16 years until selling it seven years ago. At that time he returned to his native Katerini, Greece, where he continues to own a fast food restaurant he has operated for the past seven years.

Right now Mano and Dimitris are concentrating on their new business which currently has eight employees and is open seven days-a-week from 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.- 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. With Mano's Lounge, the hours are a bit flexible and could be open later on the weekends, he said.

Dimitris, 20, said he is learning the restaurant business and mainly works as the host and cashier now. Mano manages the kitchen operation, something he has done for many years, preparing and overseeing the quality food and service which does bring customers back.

A noontime lunch buffet is offered which features soup, a salad bar, pizza and broasted chicken. Other offerings are rotated including such items as roast beef, pasta and pork loin. A number of varieties of pizza are made in house with their own sauces and dough.

A full menu is also served day and night with steaks, fish, chicken, some pasta and sandwiches available.

Meals also include the salad bar and there's a kids' menu. Carry-out of all menu items and pizza is available by calling 641-484-2288.

Desserts are on display in a large glass case with cheese cake, fruit pies and Boston cream pie among the tempting offerings.

Mano's Lounge, located opposite of the restaurant seating has a full line of cocktails and beer. The menu is also served in the lounge and beverages from the bar can also be ordered for service in the restaurant seating area.

Booths have been added on the north and south walls of the bar.

Mano's Restaurant, Pizzeria and Lounge seats a total of 110.

The lounge can be used for private meetings and parties and groups can also be accommodated in the restaurant area.

Mano came to the United State at age 23 to work in a cousin's restaurant in Columbus Junction, Iowa. He moved on to the Riverbend in Keosauqua which was also owned by a cousin and which he purchased after working there for a period of time.
