A Des Moines man has been charged with writing $50,000 in bad checks to the Meskwaki Bingo Casino at rural Tama.
Christopher Dale Betts, 33, allegedly wrote 10 checks totaling that amount and received cash for them according to Tama County District Court records. The checks were written between Oct. 7 and Nov. 27, 2012.
The checks were all returned marked "insufficient funds" the court information states. Betts was charged with 1st degree theft by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Scott Bramer.

Betts posted $50,300 bond in cash and by check and was released on Jan. 22, the records state.
He was scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 29.
