Fun in “growing old”

January 28, 2013
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Growing old doesn't mean you have to let go of fun things, your childlike spirit, or your sense of humor. Edith Knoblock, of Sunny Hill Care Center, was recently reading an article on how growing old and living in a nursing home means your institutionalized and all of spunk for living is fading away.

The article also stated just adding color to your life would help boost spirits and promote happiness. She did not believe that growing old or living in a nursing home did any of those things for her.

She has a walked to the beat of her own drum and worried more about what inspires her and makes her happy then what is culturally focused at that time.

Edith made a joke to the Sunny Hill maintenance man, Chris Zmolek, about adding just a little more color to her life by painting her walker pink. (PHOTO-RIGHT)

Chris went above and beyond by not taking her joking request lightly. He bought two different colors of pink for Edith to choose from. He also added pink zebra print to it and stickers that spelled out her name.

When Chris presented it to Edith she had tears in her eyes and stated that it was beautiful. She thanked Chris several times.

Edith commented on it saying, "I couldn't be happier!" Promoting life and happiness is what Edith does and that's what we strive to do at Sunny Hill.
