Toledo Police Officer Brian Randall and Emergency Medical Services driver Darrel Niedermann were allegedly assaulted by a person whom they were trying to aid early Monday morning, Dec. 28.
Phillip Terrell Davis, 22, became combative when the ambulance crew and Randall were attempting to secure him to a cot at 124 North Broadway - the Lynn Apartments - according to Tama County District Court records.
Davis allegedly punched Randall in the face and kicked him. Niedermann was pushed into a door knob causing bruising and pain according to the complaint filed in court.

Toledo Police Chief Bob Kendall said officer Randall either reinjured or aggravated a previous arm injury in the encounter. He is off duty until at least Jan. 17 when he can be seen by a medical specialist, Kendall said.
Davis was charged with assault on an EMS crew member, an aggravated misdemeanor and assault on a police officer, a serious misdemeanor. He was arrested on the charges and a warrant on Dec. 29 and held for a time at the Marshall County Jail.
Following an initial appetence before Magistrate Richard Vander Mey on Dec. 31, Davis was released from custody on personal recognizance bond.
A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 18.
