Tama County District Court Civil Actions -November

David James Steffen, Ft. Dodge Correctional Facility vs. State of Iowa seeking post-conviction relief. He was sentenced to five years enhanced to 15 years for assault while participating in a felony, five years enhanced to 15 years to be served concurrently for burglary and 90 days in jail for domestic abuse assault.

He alleges ineffective counsel prosecutional misconduct and judicial error.

He was sentenced in Tama County District Court in Toledo on Sept. 2, 2011, following a trial by Judge Marsha M. Beckelman.

IMT Insurance Co vs. Gwen Wathan, Toledo. The company alleges it provided a fidelity bond covering Wathan while she served as jail administrator to Tama County and has paid a $25,000 claim to the county. The suit alleges Wathan embezzled over $46,000 of county funds while under the bond and should repay IMT the $25,000 amount plus interest and court costs.

Wathan was scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 27. She pled guilty Oct. 25 to 1st degree theft.
