Frank J. and Marcella Nekola, rural Toledo and their family are one of the 2012 recipients of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship Award. This program was established in 1976 to honor and recognize families that have owned and worked a farm for 100 years or more. The Nekola's children are Randy, Gary, Danny Nekola and Cindy Williams.
The Nekola farm is located in Otter Creek Township and has been continuously owned by their family since May 22, 1886, when it was purchased by Albert and Anna Nekola, followed by Frank and Mary Nekola, Frank H. and Tena Nekola and Frank J. and Marcella (Riha) Nekola. Frank, Frank H. and Frank J. were all born and raised on the family farm. Derek Nekola, Dan's son and their grandson, is the 6 th generation and current operator of the farm. The award was presented to the Nekola family on Derek's 26 Ih birthday, August 14, 2012 at the Iowa State Fair, Des Moines by Secretary of State Bill Northey and Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill.
