Quilt of Honor awarded

Korean War and peace time veteran Tom Holven, Toledo, received a special 81st birthday present on Monday, Nov. 19, when he was presented with a Quilt of Honor recognizing his service to his country. Making the presentation to Holven on behalf of his family were Toledo Legion and Tama County Veterans Affairs representatives, from left, Legion Adjunct Eric Bartel, Tiffany Dammann, Veterans Affairs assistant, Holven, Elizabeth Ledvina, Legion commander and Veterans Affairs director and Don Havran, treasurer of the Toledo American Legion. The quilt was ordered by Tom's daughter, April.

Tom Holven served during peace time in the U.S. Army from 1948-50. He then served in the Army during the Korean War in 1950-51 and in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-54. He was awarded three Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He is a 35-year member of Reinig-Friedrich Post 72 Toledo American Legion.
