Happy Thanksgiving to all

The Way I See It

November 22, 2012
By John Sheda , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

We are challenged in the "good book" to give thanks to the Father for everything. We know of course that not all of life's twists and turns begs thanksgiving, but be that as it may be, we are still encouraged to find something to be thankful in everything. No matter what we are facing or going through, we can probably look around and see someone having a harder time. It is a worthwhile quest to at least try to give thanks for as much as we can. Life becomes a little sweeter as we do this.

With that in mind and as you sit down for your thanksgiving dinner, here are some things we may all perhaps be thankful for:

Our family. Whether it's our parents, spouse, children, siblings, grandchildren or anyone else in the family. They are so special to us.

Our friends. Remember friends always bring joy to us. Some when they arrive and some when they leave!!!

If your five senses, (sight, hear, touch, smell & taste) are working fairly thankful. Nothing better than a beautiful sunset or sunrise to feast one's eyes on. Or how about the smell of a fresh pie or a juicy pot roast. The sound of a loved one saying, "I love you." And then tasting that delicious pie or pot roast.

If you can read this, thank a teacher; if you can read this in English, thank a Veteran.

Be thankful for your home, your car, your job, and for any free time you may have, to just enjoy.

Be thankful if you can go for a walk. Many can't.

As you go through life, with its many circumstances, be thankful for happiness, sorrow, pain, fears, victories and even defeats. These all made you the person you are today.

Be thankful for a phone call, email or letter from a loved one. A simple note can absolutely make our day.

Remember your favorite song. Hum it, sing it. Music will always brighten your day.

How about a good book to read in the evening. I'm reading "Killing Kennedy" by Bill O'Reilly right now. It's a fascinating read.

Be thankful for a great bed and pillow to sleep on.

If you're working, be thankful for your job. If you're retired, be thankful you had one to retire from.

Be thankful for the Tama News & Toledo Chronicle. And this column.....Ok, I stretched it a little, didn't I?

And finally, be thankful for LOVE. There is absolutely nothing better than knowing that you are loved and that you love in return.

Oh, I am thankful for all of the above and also for salt & vinegar chips, hamburgers, movies, (Rudy is my favorite), baseball, a good cafe breakfast, beef sticks, birthdays, the wonderful game of golf, golf carts, a little spending cash in my pocket, a play at the Old Creamery Theater, the old shows on TV like Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Cheers, Andy Griffith, etc., and my two beautiful grand-kids, (God's reward to Deb and me for not killing our kids as they mustered through their teen-age years)!!!
