Yard waste burning period open in Tama

November 8, 2012
By John Speer - Editor , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Residents can burn leaves and garden waste until Nov. 18 in Tama. No grass clippings or material "with a wooded stem" are allowed to be burned.

This is the second time period approved by the Tama City Council under a new burn ban ordinance which went into effect in early October.

Tama Police Chief Dan Wilkens said his department had issued a number of verbal and written warnings during the period Oct. 22 - Nov. 3 while the burn ban was in effect.

As an alternative to dispose of yard waste, residents can deposit grass clippings in a dumpster located near the recycling collection area north of the Tama Civic Center. Yard and garden waste can also be deposited there.

Tree limbs and brush must be taken to the city brush site located south of Cherry Lake. Currently the gate for the roadway to the brush pile is opened daily during daytime hours.
