Before Judge Marsha Bergan in Tama County District Court in Toledo:
Candace Marie Freeman, 42, Hiawatha, entered a written guilty plea to charges of possession of marijuana, 3rd or subsequent offense and public intoxication, 3rd or subsequent offense. She was sentenced to 180 days in jail on each charge with the sentences to be served concurrently with a separate drunken driving sentence. Fines and court costs totaling 844 were assessed on each count. She was also directed ro pay a law enforcement initiative surcharge of $125 and a $10 D.A.R.E. surcharge.
Freeman was cited on Sept. 12 on the marijuana violation by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Michael German. The public intoxication charge was added in a County Attorney's information filed on Sept. 21.
Diaz Vincent Sheridan, 24, Toledo, entered a written guilty plea to charges of 2nd offense drunken driving and driving whole barred. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail and fined and assessed court costs totaling $2,531 on the drunken driving charge and fine and court costs totaling $844 for driving while barred. The jail time is to be served concurrently with a sentence in a second drunken driving case.
Sheridan will be allowed to perform community service at the rate of $7.25 hourly in lieu of paying the fines and court costs. He also was directed to complete drinking driver's school. His driver's license was suspended for one year.
Sheridan was charged on May 22 in the 1500 block of 305th Street by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Lucas Dvorak.
