Setting the tone early in the game, the South Tama County freshman football squad proved too much for Boone to handle Friday night.
The Trojans came out and pounded Boone early in the contest and those early touchdowns were too much for the Toreadors to overcome. South Tama won the game 43-6.
"This win pushes our record to 5-2 on the season, and it was our fourth straight win," coach Nathan Van Dyke said. "I feel like we are playing great football and gaining momentum throughout the season. Once again, our line won the battle up front, led by Lane Votrobeck and Edwin Youngbear. Also, Shaquille Carrillo was a special teams standout for us."
South Tama freshman Peyton Craun (No. 27) sprints down field ahead of several Boone defenders during the first half Friday. Craun scored two touchdowns as South Tama won the game 43-6.
South Tama's offensive line provided big holes for the Trojans all game, but espeically early in the contest. Peyton Craun got the scoring started in the first quarter with a 28-yard touchdown run. A few minutes later, he scored again. The second touchdown was a four-yard run. Justin Suchanek added a third STC touchdown before the quarter ended. He intercepted a Boone pass and returned it 37 yards for the touchdown. STC failed all three conversions, but led 18-0 after one quarter of action.
South Tama continued to pour it on during the second quarter. Suchanek added his second of four touchdowns on the day when he scored from one yard out. Jerry Lowe kicked an extra-point try, giving STC a 25-0 lead. Before the half was finished, Suchanek scored again on a two-yard run. South Tama led 31-0 at the break.
Boone finally found the scoreboard after halftime. The Toreadors scored a touchdown on a 60-yard pass. However, STC answered with a 43-yard pass from Bailey Chyma to Suchanek, giving the Trojans a 37-6 lead. Lowe added the final touchdown of the game on a 27-yard fumble recovery after STC blocked a Boone punt.
Offensivley, Chyma threw for 117 passing yards and he rushed for 26 more. Craun had 105 rushing yards, 104 return yards and two touchdowns on the game. Suchanek rushed for 26 yards, while adding 57 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Lowe also had 74 all-purpose yards for STC. Colson Frakes added 52 yards receiving for the Trojans.
Defensively, Craun led the way with 11 tackles on the game. Nathan McAdoo added seven tackles, while Lane Votrobeck, Shaquille Carrillo and Lowe each had five apiece. Chyma also had three tackles Friday, while recovering two fumbles. Craun and Lowe each had fumble recoveries, too. Lowe, Votrobeck and McAdoo each had sacks in the game for STC.
