South Tama's junior varsity football team didn't score an offensive touchdown until it needed one in the final seconds of Monday's home contest.

Trailing by two points with less than two minutes remaining in the game, STC needed a score to beat Ballard. The Trojans nearly returned the Bombers' squib kick for a touchdown, but they took it to midfield.

The Trojans quickly drove the ball inside's the Bombers 10 yard line with 0 :59 remaining. After three running plays, the Trojans let the clock run down to 0:05 remaining in the contest before calling their final timeout. On their final play of the game, junior Dalton Doyle ran a two-yard quarterback sneak and narrowly crossed the end zone, winning the game for South Tama, 28-24.

South Tama's first three touchdowns weren't scored by its offense. The first came on a Ballard punt attempt during the first half. Ballard's punt hit the back of its protector, who was pushed back by the Trojans defense. The ball bounced near the goal line, before an STC player dove in front of the Bombers' punter and knocked the ball into the end zone. STC senior Brad Evans recovered the fumble for the score.

Junior Dylan Kalinay scored South Tama's other two touchdowns. Kalinay first returned a kickoff 93 yards for a score. He sprinted around the Bombers defense and ran up the sideline for the touchdown. His score put STC back in the game after trailing 17-8.

Later in the second half, Kalinay broke another special teams run for a score. Kalinay caught a punt and took it up the sideline, narrowly staying inbounds, for a 48-yard touchdown.

The Trojans final JV game will be at 6 p.m. Monday against Boone.
