Dean Borg to host Oct. 10 legislative Forum

MARSHALLTOWN Dean Borg, host of Iowa Press, will moderate a Legislative Forum with six local candidates for the Iowa Legislature on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 6 pm. The one-hour forum, open to the public, will be held at the Iowa Valley Continuing Education Center (3702 S. Center St.) in Dejardin Hall, room 808.

The six candidates participating in the forum are Senator Steve Sodders (District 36) and candidate Jane Jech, Representative Mark Smith (District 71) and candidate Allen Burt, and House District 72 candidates Dean Fisher and Nathan Wrage.

Cindy Schulte, IVCCD Director of Governmental Affairs, explains that Borg will facilitate a conversation with the six candidates centered on the topics of education and workforce training, issues of importance to Iowa's community colleges. Audience members will be able to listen and learn, but will not have the opportunity to submit their own questions to the candidates.

"It's a great honor to have Dean Borg come to our Marshalltown campus to host this conversation with the candidates," says Schulte. "His political and journalistic experience will be in evidence, and I know local residents and voters will enjoy the event and learn a great deal at the same time."

An award-winning journalist, Dean Born has been a host and moderator with Iowa Press since it premiered in 1971. His is currently a senior producer /correspondent with WSUI at the University of Iowa and a frequent contributor to National Public Radio (NPR). A native of Forest City, he holds journalism and public administration degrees from Iowa State University and The University of Iowa.

The Legislative Forum is hosted by Iowa Valley Community College District, coordinated with assistance from the Marshalltown Community College Student Senate.
