A rout of Saydel on Friday night put the South Tama freshman football team back above .500, as it improved to 3-2 with its 41-0 victory.
South Tama scored touchdowns all over the field. Bailey Chyma threw three touchdown passes as he threw for 70 yards. He found Justin Suchanek, Colson Frakes and Mitch Thede all for one-yard touchdown passes.
Suchanek rushed the ball for 59 yards, while also recording 31 receiving yards. Jerry Lowe led the Trojans with 68 yards rushing and 42 return yards. Lowe also scored on a touchdown run.
Defensively, STC scored a pair of touchdowns. Peyton Craun recorded seven tackles, one safety and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown. The other defensive touchdown came on a fumble recovery. Jake Witt scooped it up and ran it into the end zone. Nathan McAdoo led STC with eight tackles. Lowe, Thede and Dakota Vodochodsky each had fiv tackles in the game.
"This was a big win for us in that it gets us back above .500 with a 3-2 record," coach Nathan Van Dyke said. "We scored six touchdowns with six different players, and everyone played, so it was a fun game. Also, our defense continues to play tough with their second straight shutout. We scored our first two defensive touchdowns of the season, downed their quarterback for five sacks, and added a safety. It's all due to our hard hitting, physical style of play. That's what we're known for here at South Tama, and we take a lot of pride in it. "
Last week, STC beat Newton 30-0 on the road. Craun led the way offensively with 125 yards on the ground and 85 receiving yards, along with a pair of touchdowns. Suchanek rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown in the game. Lowe had 83 all-purpose yards and a touchdown.
STC also played well on defense. Craun and Chyma had seven tackles each. Ruben Garcia had six tackles and a sack. Colson Frakes had an interception, Craun had a fumble recovery and Chyma recorded a safety for STC.
The Trojans play at 4:45 p.m. Friday at Ballard.
