"Don't do anything stupid" read the last line of the holdup note Jeremy Alan Mask handed to Medicap Pharmacy employees in Toledo on July 12.

Mask pled guilty to the robbery of the drug store, a pair of drug possession charges and to operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent in Tama County District Court in Toledo on Sept. 13.

Mask, 25, of traer, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on the 2nd degree robbery charge and two, two-year terms for possession of hydrocodone and oxycodene - two of the drugs he stole from the pharmacy. On the vehicle theft charge he was sentenced to 180 days in jail. He was also directed to pay $500 restitution to the Medicap Pharmacy. A $1,000 fine on the robbery charge was suspended.

In imposing the sentence, Judge Paul D. Miller ruled Mask must serve at least 7/10s of the 10-year sentence before being eligible for parole.

The Tama County sentences are to run concurrently. However, they are to be served consecutively with sentences imposed upon Mask in Black Hawk County for escape from custody, operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent and 3rd degree burglary.

Mask was being held in the Black Hawk County Jail in Waterloo in July when he escaped while maintenance work was being done on the jail. He was being held at the time for the alleged robbery of a Waterloo pharmacy.

Fact Box

The text of Jeremy Mask's note used in the Medicap robbery as entered in the District Court record:

"This is not a joke! I have a loaded weapon. & if you don't comply with everything I said I am willing to use it! I want all of your C-2 opiates & amphetamines loaded into a sack along with every strength of hydrocodone, you have on the shelf! I want all of what you have & if I feel you're holding out I will hurt you or one of your employees! Play nice & live! No funny business, I walk out of here or none of us do. On giving me all the pills I want you to empty the cash register into the bag, bills only! Don't do anything stupid!"

He reportedly made his way to Traer, stole a pickup truck there and then travelled to Toledo where he robbed the pharmacy about 5:30 p.m. He took various drugs and $58 in cash according to court records. He abandoned the pickup near the Toledo Middle School and stole a 1998 model car from a residential area in the northeast part of town.

The next day, he was spotted by authorities and led them on a high-speed chase through northern Tama and southern Black Hawk counties before being stopped near Hudson in another stolen car.

Mask was originally charged by Toledo Police Officer Joseph McMillen with 2nd degree robbery, 2nd and 3rd degree theft and five drug possession charges.

Mask's robbery note said he was armed, but Toledo Police Chief Bob Kendall said authorities believe he was actually not armed.
