According to official enrollment reports, the fall 2012 student headcount and credit hour count are up at Iowa Valley Community College District, which operates Ellsworth Community College and Marshalltown Community College. Official numbers have not yet been received from all of the Iowa community colleges, but unofficial reports indicate that only two community college districts in the state experienced enrollment growth this fall, while one community college had no growth and all the others experienced enrollment declines.

"We are thrilled to be reporting growth in our numbers this fall, and it speaks volumes about all the hard work done by our Admissions and Student Services staff members, our faculty, and all the other employees who have spent the year focusing on students," says Chris Duree, IVCCD Chancellor. "The numbers were just released yesterday, so we'll begin meeting to dissect the data to learn what's working well and where we need to improve things. It's really an ongoing process of continuous improvement for us, because we can always do better. That said, it is also a good time for a moment of celebration!"

The IVCCD Office of Institutional Research reports that total IVCCD fall 2012 headcount is 3,105 students, up by 1.07 percent from last year. Those students are enrolled in 33,332 credit hours, an increase of 1.86 percent from fall 2011. On a district-wide basis, the data shows that full-time student numbers are down less than 1 percent, but part-time enrollments are up 3.78 percent. The largest gain was in the number of high school students taking college credit courses, which was up 7.54 percent over last year.

By specific college, Ellsworth Community College reports a headcount of 1,100 students, up 5.16 percent from last fall, and 13,321.5 credit hours, up 8.17 percent from last year. Marshalltown Community College (which includes numbers from Iowa Valley Grinnell) has a total student population of 2,005, down 1.04 percent from last fall, and 20,010 credit hours, down 1.94 percent from the previous year.
