Sunny Hill Care Center partnered with the Iowa Honor Flight committee to honor Sunny Hill's World War II veterans on Aug. 25. The Honor Flight program is an amazing opportunity for WWII and Korean War veterans to see Washington D.C. and visit all the monuments created in their honor.
Not all veterans are able to make the long trip to D.C., so Sunny Hill and the Honor Flight program brought the trip and the experience home to the veterans. Lawrence Cibula (Army WWII), Robert Neumann (Army/Air Corps WWII), Freddie Gebhardt (Army WWII) and Helen Stephens (WAVE WWII) were all honored and presented with certificates of appreciation for their time that they spent in the service and for the service they provide to our country.
Photos for the Veterans were taken to Washington D.C. and then saluted in a special ceremony created for veterans that could not attend or that have passed away. They also received photos from the flight including a photo of their picture being saluted and honored. Veterans and their families viewed a video of the flight.

After the ceremony Sunny Hill catered a meal for the veterans, their families and the Honor Flight committee. This experience for the Veterans will always be remembered by them, their families and the staff of Sunny Hill and we should never forget what they did and sacrificed for us.
